My Tips and Tricks for Holiday Shopping!

Hey cupcakes! Black Friday is around the corner, which means it is time to start holiday shopping for your family and friends. :) In preparation, I thought I would share with you all my tips and tricks for acing your holiday shopping!

1. Start early! - Don't be that person who has to go out the week before Christmas to finish up your shopping. Not only will everything already be picked over, but you will have to deal with a whole crowd of people. The earlier you start, the better!

2. Decide if Black Friday is worth it - Black Friday is definitely for the intense holiday shopper, so if you don't want to go out shopping you might find it easier to just shop on Cyber Monday (or even Black Friday online sales).

Image result for black friday

3. Set a budget before you go - It makes gift shopping way easier if you have a budget set before you hit the store! Plus, it allows you to actively know how much the holidays are going to set you back before you even spend the money... Just make sure to say in the budget!

4. Brainstorm - Again, before you even hit a store, brainstorm what you want to get everyone!!! I like to do this in the Notes app of my phone, and it makes you think about what the person likes before you have to aimlessly walk around the store. I find that this allows me to get more thoughtful gifts, so I would totally recommend.

Image result for brainstorming

5. Make your cards - Cards are so expensive, and while there are alternatives like Paperless Post (see my post on this company here!), I LOVE to make cards for people myself. I have always been crafty and making my own cards allows me to add inside jokes, and more personalization to each card.

Image result for diy holiday card

6. Stick to trusted websites - If you have never used a certain website, it might be best to not buy a holiday gift on it. Use the sites you have used before and know get your gift to you on time! :)

Storytime: Disappearing Spider Attack?!

Hey cupcakes! Today I am coming at you all with another hilarious storytime post (read my last storytime post here)! It seems like I always have interesting stories to share with you all, so let me know if you want me to continue writing posts like this! Let's get started...

Alright, so this story takes place after a long day of class and work (lol - basically all of my stories start like this). I made it back to my dorm and decided to call my mom since I hadn't talked to her for awhile. I was talking to her on the phone while putting away my backpack and when I turned around, I saw a HUGE spider on the wall above my bed.

Image result for fake huge spider

Now I'm usually not scared of spiders, but there was something about this one.... Its body was very large, which grossed me out because it would crunch when I killed it.

Image result for nasty gif

I was like, "Mom, I will call you back. There's an urgent spider situation." I got a paper towel from my cupboard, went to kill it, AND IT FREAKING WENT BEHIND THE MOLDING OF MY CEILING.

Image result for burn it gif

I was horrified (because this spider was honestly the largest I've ever seen). I RAN to get the vacuum on my floor....

Image result for grab no shoes or nothing gif

And started to try to suck the spider from the molding. However, I couldn't tell if I got it or not (because I couldn't see the top of my ceiling). Basically, that huge spider could still be my roommate.

How To Style: Anniversary Date Night

Hey cupcakes! Today is my boyfriend and I's four year anniversary! :D <3 He is visiting me at college for a few days, so I thought it would be fun to make a lookbook inspired by an anniversary date night. Enjoy!

Outfit 1 - To remind your partner how awesome (and hot) you are, rock a gorgeous bodycon dress! To go with the rocker vibe of this dress, I paired it with a leather jacket and some heels.

Outfit 2 - I originally had this cute baby pink skirt that I wanted to pair with a sweater, but then I found this sweater dress and fell in love! It is so cute and the subtle pink still fits the anniversary/love theme. Pair it with some ankle boots and some dainty jewelry - perfect!

Outfit 3 - For a traditional date night look, rock a Little Black Dress! Any cardigan or kimono would look great, and I love these flats to complete the look. :)

What do you wear on your anniversary date night? Comment below and don't forget to follow The Chic Cupcake to never miss a post!

My Current Favorite Accessories to Stay Warm

Hey cupcakes! "Weather" we like it or not, the cold is here to stay (lol - did you like what I did there?). It has been freezing here, so I have had to bust out all of my hats, gloves, scarves, etc. in order to not freeze as I walk to class. I wanted to share my favorite accessories with you all, so let's get started!

1. Dinosaur Hat - Rue21

Image result for rue 21 dinosaur hat

I bought this hat last year after Christmas (it was on sale for $1!), and I love it. You can't get it anymore obviously, but I would recommend buying a really cute hat like this to stay warm.

2. Blanket Scarf - Charlotte Russe

Striped Woven Blanket Scarf

Blanket scarves are all the rage right now, and I have been loving mine! They are so huge and cozy, which allows you to ties them so many different ways. I think it is an essential for the winter!

3. Text Gloves - Amazon

iGotTech Texting Gloves for Smartphones and Touchscreens, Black With Gray Details

If you are a college student, I think it is a must to have gloves that allow you to text and use your smartphone. Whether you have to check your email as you walk to class or message in GroupMe about an upcoming group project, these gloves are awesome! Plus, they keep your hands super warm!

4. Cute Minnie Hat - Hot Topic

Cute hats are a must in the cold weather, and Hot Topic always has such cute ones! From Harry Potter to Disney to basically any fandom, they have a lot of cute (and cheap) designs!

5. Flip Gloves - Target

Because you can never have enough gloves in the cold weather, I also suggest getting a pair of finger-less flip gloves! These are super cute mittens and are perfect if you will need to use your hands outside. :)

Best Songs for the Fall/Winter Transition

Hey cupcakes! I haven't done a music post in quite some time, so I thought it would be fun to make a list of all my current favorite songs. These songs have been perfect for the fall into winter transition, so I hope you take a listen! :)

1. "Flicker" by Niall Horan

Niall has always been my favorite One Direction member, so I was actually super excited to listen to his new album. I think it so good! "Flicker" is one of my favs, so I would definitely listen to it!

2. "Love is Like a Match" by Imogen Brough

I came across this song when listening to the soundtrack for the Dance Academy movie (lol), and I think it is a great cold weather song! For some reason it reminds me sitting by the fireplace when it is snowing outside, which gives it such a cozy vibe.

3. "Out Loud" by Gabbie Hanna

This song doesn't really have to do with the seasonal transition, but Gabbie from The Gabbie Show on YouTube actually came out with a great song!

4. "Havana" by Camila Cabello and Young Thug

This song is quite a jam! It has a really good catchy track in the back, so it has been a go-to song for me if I need motivation :P

5. "Paper Houses" by Niall Horan

Lol - another Niall song (I told you his album was good)! This song reminds me of a winter day for some reason, and it has such a beautiful melody. Definitely check it out!

What are your favorite songs currently? Comment below and don't forget to follow The Chic Cupcake to never miss a post! :D

Review: Paperless Post!

Hey cupcakes! I am such a big fan of writing my friends and family letters when I am at school, and as many of you know I have always enjoyed any type of art/craft project. In cooperation with Anagram Interactive, I wanted to review Paperless Post for you all!

Image result for paperless post

What is Paperless Post you ask? It is a website that allows you to send virtual cards that are totally customizable (and cheap!) to as many people as you'd like. The website includes so many different types of cards and invitations, from birthday to holiday to wedding! To send the cards, you have to purchase "coins", with a starting package of 20 coins for only $6 (or $0.30 per coin). This base price gets cheaper as you purchase the larger packages of coins!

While there are some free cards on the website, I wanted to walk through my experience customizing both a 1 coin and 2 coin card. Let's get started!

1 Coin: Holiday Card (check out the other holiday cards here!)

Front of card
Back of card

The card customization works by first picking out the cover of the card. Then, you can add different features for extra coins. Because I wanted to keep the price of this one lower, I added a gold backdrop (1 coin), pineapple envelope liner (1 coin), and green envelope (1 coin) for a card total of 4 coins (which is $1.20). I think this card turned out super cute!!!! When you send the card, it automatically send it in an email to your recipient(s). The recipient can them open it, which sends you to a video of the card being opened - it is super cute!

What it looks like when you first get the email!

2 Coin Card: Birthday Card (check out the other birthday cards here!)

For this card, I added a confetti backdrop (1 coin), polka dot envelope liner (1 coin), tan envelope (1 coin), and birthday cake stamp (1 coin) for a total of 6 coins (or $1.80). One of the things I absolutely love about the website is its hilarious pop culture references in the sample text (I kept the text the same in this card to show you all!). From the ones I saw, they had references to Harry Potter, Great Gatsby, etc. What a great touch!
Look at this cute design!!!!!!!

Overall Thoughts
I think this website is super cool! I cannot tell you how much fun it was to customize my cards, because there are just so many options! You can customize literally everything on the card (text size, font, color, etc.), and you can even add your own pictures. Plus, there are plently of amazing card designs to choose from, so you will definitely be able to find the perfect card for everyone. I think the idea of sending virtual cards is great because it reduces the amount of paper used, allows the recipient to keep the card forever on the computer, and is cheaper than most cards at any store (and you can customize it!!). Paperless Post also saves each card you send, so you can send the same card again or edit it for a new recipient. I definitely think doing invitations/holiday cards on this website would be fantastic, as all you have to do is put in emails and the cards will all be sent at once (you won't have to lick any nasty envelopes!). If you are looking for a great card website, I would recommend trying out Paperless Post! :)

Taste Testing Random Candy!

Hey cupcakes! Since Halloween was a few days ago, I thought I would do a fun post where I review some of the unique/interesting candy I tried during this holiday season. :) I am a big fan of sweets, so let's get right into it!

Image result for candy gif
Me after Halloween :P

1. Reese's Stuffed with Pieces

Image result for reese with reese pieces

I saw a commercial for these over the summer and had been dying to try it out... It seems like such an interesting choice! Honestly, I was kind of disappointed because the picture shows full Reeses Pieces on the interior, when really it was just flakes/ground up Pieces. It is pretty smart of the company to make this, as I assume the Reeses Pieces on the inside are just from rejected Pieces from the factory. The filling didn't change the flavor of the typical Reeses, it just added a crunch. I would eat it again, but I definitely wouldn't search it out over the normal Reeses.
Rating: 6/10

2. Caramel Apple Dum Dum

Image result for caramel apple dum dums

I have always been a fan of Dum Dums! They are super tiny, so I love trying out different flavors (cuz you can't just eat one haha). I had never seen a caramel apple one before, and it was SO good! It tasted like the Sour Apple Dum Dum but then was mixed with a delicious taste of caramel (that reminded me almost of the Butterscotch Dum Dum). The flavor was definitely spot on, and I will eat it again!
Rating: 9.5/10

3. Dark Chocolate Kit Kat

Image result for dark chocolate kit kat

This really isn't very unique, but I had never tried (or even seen) a dark chocolate Kit Kat before! I thought it was super tasty! I have always liked dark chocolate better than milk chocolate, so I think the richer flavor really complements the crunch of the candy bar. Overall, I definitely prefer these over the original, so I would recommend trying them out! :D
Rating: 10/10

DIY: Rock Cacti Room Decor

Hey cupcakes! The colder weather is starting to set in, which means the leaves are almost gone and the weather is super gloomy... It is super important to have a little "green" in your life, so today I wanted to share with you all how to make your very own faux cactus! It is so easy, and such cute room decor.

What You Need:
-Some sort of terracotta pot (can be as small or large as you want!)
-Green and white paint
-Dirt/smaller rocks

What To Do:
1. To start making your faux cacti, you need to find some rocks that will fit inside your pot.

2. Lay out some newspaper on a flat surface, and start painting your rocks green (you can always vary the shades of green too to make it more realistic!).

3. Let the rocks dry.

4. Add details on the cacti in white paint. Let dry again.

5. To "plant" your cacti, fill the pot with small rocks/dirt/whatever you would like as the filler (you can also paint the pot if you want).

6. Stand up the rocks so that they look just like a cactus!

7. Display in your room and get rid of your cold weather blues. :)

Recipes: What To Do with Leftover Halloween Candy!

Hey cupcakes! Now that Halloween is officially over (insert sad face here), you might have some extra candy lying around the house.... Instead of just eating it as is, you can always turn it into some delicious treats! Here are some easy recipes to transform that leftover candy into something magical :D

1. Trail Mix/Chex Mix

Image result for chex mix with m&ms

If you have any kind of small snackable treats left (like M&Ms, Milk Duds, Reeses Pieces, etc.), throw them into some trail mix or chex mix! Such an easy way to spice it up and eat not just the candy. :P

2. Cupcake Toppers

Image result for cupcake topped with candy

Making some post holiday treats for your friends or coworkers? Add extra candy as a tasty garnish on top! You can make the candy into a design or you can just add it right on top (the people eating it won't actually care which way haha).

3. Cookie Filler

Image result for cookie with candy inside

Making your best sugar cookies? Throw in some candy corn or other broken pieces of candy for a surprise when you bite inside!

4. Freeze It!

I know this sounds really lame, but freezing candy actually makes it last longer. Pop some of the leftovers into the freezer for some great chocolate snacks when you are PMSing a few months from now! :P

5. Regift It!

Image result for halloween bag of candy

Didn't give your friends or neighbors anything for the holiday? Package up some leftover candy in a cute bag and treat them (especially if they didn't get any candy).

What do you do with your leftover Halloween candy? Comment below and don't forget to follow The Chic Cupcake to never miss a post!

Anxiety Journey Part 1: My Goals

Hey cupcakes! If you read my recent Goals for Junior Year post (read it here!), you will know that I want to find a way to manage my anxiety this year. I thought it would be interesting for you all to make a series of this, where I will be updating you all each month about how I am doing. Mental Health is super important, so I hope to bring awareness to anxiety and help any of you who may also be experiencing the same issues. For this month, I wanted to outline some of my goals in this process to start a baseline for the rest of the year. :)

Image result for lets get started gif

Goal #1 - Learn deep breathing/meditation

Image result for meditation

This year especially, I have been overthinking/getting anxious about certain things that result in my heart rate increasing. In order to combat this, I really would like to learn some deep breathing and meditation excerises. I have heard so many great things about meditation, so I hope it is beneficial to me!

Goal #2 - Find the right smells

Image result for maple holistic lemon oil

This probably sounds really strange, but my anxiety is sometimes triggered by certain smells. To combat this, I am hoping to try to find an essential oil that I can rub on my wrist during times of high stress. The first oil I am going to try is the Lemon Essential Oil from Maple Holistics. I did a review of the Argan Oil from this brand (I LOVED it, so check out the review here!), so I have a good feeling that this Lemon Oil will help me with my anxiety. :)

Goal #3 - Find an artistic way to fight it

Image result for sketchbook

I have always been really into arts and crafts, but when I am busy at school it seems like I can never tap into my creativity. To help with my anxiety this year, I want to set aside some time each week to draw, paint, color, journal, etc. I think it is so important to let your brain de-stress when you are anxious!

Goal #4 - Keep you all updated!

In order to raise awareness, I will be putting myself out there to update you all on my mental health. If you also struggle with anxiety, depression, etc., I encourage you to also find an outlet where you can impact others. <3 It is not only helpful for you (by allowing you to express what you are feeling, etc.), but you can help others too!

Are you excited for this mental health journey? Comment below and don't forget to hit those subscribe buttons to never miss any of my update posts here on The Chic Cupcake! :) I love you all!

How To Style: Fall Plaids

Hey cupcakes! One of my favorite looks for the fall-time is the plaid print. So many people (especially on my college campus) wear such cute outfits with plaid, so I thought I would make a fun lookbook of my three favorite ways to style plaid in the fall/winter season. Let's get started!

Outfit 1 - This outfit is the easiest of the three: plaid flannel, leggings, and boots! Super simple yet a perfect autumn look!

Outfit 2 - If you don't have a plaid shirt, I suggest finding a plaid scarf! They are so cute and easy to style; in this look, I paired a sweater with the scarf, jeans, and ankle boots. Viola!

Outfit 3 - This is probably my favorite way to wear plaid... As a "cardigan"! Wear some jeans, boots, and a long sleeve shirt and throw on the flannel on top (if you don't want to wear it all day, you can wear it around your waist for another cute look!).

My Halloween Costume + Updates!

Hey cupcakes, Happy Halloween!

Image result for dancing pumpkin gif

I hope everyone has a great day planned :D Today, I wanted to share with you all my Halloween costume and some updates for The Chic Cupcake! First, my costume:

This year, I am going as a mermaid! I found this cute scale skirt online and am pairing it with a shell bra shirt (because it is cold outside haha), some sandals, and a starfish hair clip. So simple yet cute! :)

Now for some updates:
1. If you read my goals post a few weeks ago (read it here!), I recently quit my job. I will be starting a new job next week (YAY), but I want to spend more time this year blogging. Therefore, I will be going back to posting every other day! :D This will basically force me to put more time into blogging, and I am so excited for you all to see what great posts I have planned!

2. I usually post at 6:30 AM, but have decided to now post at 8:00 AM instead. :)

3. BLOGMAS WILL BE HAPPENING THIS DECEMBER! I have always wanted to post every day for a certain month, so I am challenging myself to do it this year. I am super excited, and I hope all of you are too!

I hope everyone has a great Halloween! What is your costume this year? Comment below and don't forget to follow me at The Chic Cupcake!

My 5 Favorite Halloween Accessories

Hey cupcakes! Because Halloween is almost here, I wanted to compile a list of some of my favorite Halloween accessories from this season! I love rocking cute/spoopy things during this month, and I hope you all do the same ;) Let's get started!

1. Halloween Enamel Pins from Target ($1)

Image result for target pumpkin enamel pin

These are freakin' adorable! I bought the pack with the pumpkin and boo speech bubble, and I plan on rocking them on my jean jacket on Halloween. They are the perfect subtle way to get in the spirit, and for only $1 you can't go wrong!

2. Black Chokers

Image result for 90s black choker

This isn't exactly Halloween themed, but I feel like I have been wearing my black chokers more this month.... :P

3. Pumpkin Socks from Target ($4)

You can't survive October without some cute Halloween socks! Target has a great selection (and they are so affordable!), so I suggest picking up a pair (or two or three). :)

4. Halloween Earring Set from Walmart ($3)

Halloween Novelty Trio Bat Earring

Walmart has such cute holiday earrings that are always super cheap. Even though they aren't the best quality, you will only wear them once or twice a year - so it does the trick!

5. Skeleton Purse from Amazon ($18)

This is honestly the cutest thing ever! It is perfect for Halloween and will get you in the spirit all month long. :D

Storytime: Stuck in the Shower in a Fire?!

Hey cupcakes! Last time I did a storytime post, I came at you all with my wizardry story (read it here!)... Today I will be sharing another great story from my life, so sit back, relax, and enjoy the show! :P

Okay, so as many of you all know (which if you don't, you should totally hit that subscribe button over there ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------> ), I live in an all-girls dorm at my university. I absolutely love it here and have been blessed to meet some of the most amazing women :D Just like my previous storytime (yupp the wizard one haha), this story begins after a long day of studying and doing homework.

Image result for of course gif

On this day in particular, I had class from 8:30 AM to 2 PM. Then I worked for a few hours and studied/did homework/died on the inside til around 9 PM. Woop.

I was looking so forward to getting back to my dorm, taking a hot shower, and snuggling in my bed to de-stress before bed time. I walked back from the business school, got my pajamas and my shower caddy, put on my cheap shower flip flops and headed to the bathroom.

Image result for so ready gif

My favorite shower was open - what a win! I turned on the water, let it get hot, and then stepped inside to wash away all of my worries from the day.

Me: Starts to shampoo my hair
Dorm: THE FIRE ALARM HAS BEEN ACTIVATED.... THIS IS NOT A DRILL....PLEASE HEAD TO THE NEAREST EXIT (yes my dorm's fire alarm not only makes a horrible high pitched noise and blinks strobe lights they also yell at you)

Image result for angry what gif

In a mad dash I had to wrap myself in a towel, and squeak in my wet shoes all the way outside.

Turns out, it was just a drill

Lol - so there you have it! Another classic story from my life ;) Where is the weirdest place you have been at when the fire alarm went off? Comment below and don't forget to follow The Chic Cupcake!

DIY: Leaf-Covered Mason Jars

Hey cupcakes! I feel like I haven't done a DIY post in quite some time, so I wanted to share an awesome fall room decor craft with you all today :D My roommate and I made some of these the other day, and they are so cute (and easy to make)! Let's get started!

Image result for leaf mason jars

What You Need
-Any size of mason jar
-Mod Podge
-Some sort of paint brush (I recommend a sponge brush)
-Leaves (you can use real or fake leaves for this!)
-Optional: candle or fake candle

1. Take your leaves and figure out where you want them around the mason jar.

2. Apply the leaves to the mason jar using the Mod Podge. In order to ensure the leaves stay on, I suggest coating the back of the leaf before placing it on the jar and then coating over the entire thing (don't worry - the Mod Podge will dry clear!).

3. Let the mason jar dry for a few hours.

4. Ta-da! Your room decor is ready to be displayed. For an awesome effect, try lighting a candle or fake candle inside the jar :)

I personally think fake leaves work the best for this DIY! :)
